The four-day Durga Puja holiday ends today, and many visitors are preparing to return to their workplaces tomorrow.
As the long vacation comes to a close, Cox’s Bazar—Bangladesh’s top tourist destination—is gradually becoming less crowded after several bustling days.
According to tourism stakeholders, hotels, motels, and resorts in Cox’s Bazar were fully booked from Tuesday to Saturday, with occupancy reaching 100% during the holiday period.
Despite the rough weather since Wednesday and the turbulent sea, the slight improvement in the weather from Friday encouraged many tourists to continue enjoying the beach.
Waves remain high, and wind speeds are strong, yet the challenging conditions have not deterred beachgoers from enjoying the outdoors.
Many visitors have been seen bathing in the sea, often taking risks to enjoy the excitement of the waves.
Tourist police, lifeguards, and beach workers from the district administration have been continuously urging tourists to avoid swimming in the rough sea.
Apel Mahmud, Additional DIG and head of the Tourist Police Cox’s Bazar region, said, “During the four-day Durga Puja and weekend holidays, around four to five lakh tourists visited Cox’s Bazar. Alongside the Tourist Police, other law enforcement agencies have remained active in ensuring the safety of this large number of visitors.”
