A low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal has intensified into a deep depression, triggering rough seas and heavy rainfall along the Cox’s Bazar coastline. The Cox’s Bazar Meteorological Office has advised the local seaport to hoist signal number 3 due to increasing atmospheric pressure differences caused by the deepening system.

Abdul Mannan, meteorologist at the Cox’s Bazar weather office, reported that heavy rainfall accompanied by gusty or squally winds is affecting the coastal areas. Tidal surges have risen 2 to 3 feet above normal levels under the depression’s influence.

Authorities have urged tourists visiting Cox’s Bazar beach to exercise caution as the sea turns rough. Authorities have restricted bathing beyond knee-deep water, especially in red-flagged zones. Both tourist police and lifeguards are strictly monitoring and advising against venturing into dangerous waters.

As a precaution, the upazila administration has suspended all maritime transport between Teknaf and Saint Martin’s Island.
