Adverse weather conditions have left Cox’s Bazar sea beach in turmoil, as powerful waves crash onto the shore, sweeping away even the protective geo-bags.
The force of the waves is eroding the beachside Jhau forests and damaging portions of the Marine Drive road, particularly near major tourist gathering spots.
Tidal surges have flooded low-lying areas along the coast as well as parts of the town. For the past two days, the region has been experiencing a mix of heavy, moderate, and light rain.
The town’s hilly areas have experienced several minor landslides due to the persistent rainfall, but there have been no reported casualties thus far.
The flooding has caused damage to fish enclosures, vegetable fields, and homes in low-lying coastal areas.
Meanwhile, the sea remains turbulent, prompting authorities to bar tourists from entering the water.
Despite warnings from lifeguards and the tourist police, many visitors are defying the restrictions and attempting to bathe in the waves, posing challenges for the local administration.
