The supply of pineapples has increased significantly in fruit markets across Cox’s Bazar, as large quantities of hill-grown produce continue to arrive from the neighbouring district of Bandarban.

Traders report a well-stocked market with noticeably lower prices compared to previous weeks.

A visit to fruit stalls along the town’s main roads and in tourist areas found that large pineapples, which previously sold for Tk 80 to Tk 100 each, are now priced between Tk 50 and Tk 70, depending on size and quality. Medium-sized pineapples are selling for Tk 40 to Tk 50, while smaller ones are available at Tk 30 to Tk 40 apiece, according to vendors.

Hossain, a fruit seller in the town, said that hill pineapples from Bandarban are popular for their sweetness and juiciness.

“As supply has increased, we can sell at lower prices. Customers are satisfied, and sales have improved,” he said.

Hamid, a customer at one of the markets, said that by the end of the winter season, pineapples have become widely available.

“Because prices are lower, many people are buying several at a time,” he added.

Traders expressed hope that if the steady flow of pineapples from the hill district continues, prices will remain stable in the coming weeks, allowing consumers to enjoy the seasonal fruit at affordable rates.
