Henna or Mehendi is a well-known and widely appreciated plant. Despite the common use of henna leaves for hand coloring, the plant offers numerous other applications. However, henna trees have gradually become rare in many parts of Cox’s Bazar District recently.
In this context, a large henna tree has recently been found in Ramu Upazila. Local residents said that the rare sight of trees of this size in the area has sparked considerable interest.
Henna leaves remain in high demand. Many people grind the leaves and apply them to their hair, while others use them on their hands as a natural form of decoration. The leaves are also valued for their medicinal properties and are used in various traditional remedies.
Locals believe that if such trees are properly preserved, they could play an important role in meeting future demand for henna.
Henna trees can also be found in rooftop gardens and household yards in different parts of Cox’s Bazar.
