Only 26 lifeguards are responsible for up to 15,000 tourists at Cox’s Bazar’s Laboni, Sugandha, and Kolatoli beaches daily. Despite red flag warnings at Sugandha Point, many tourists ignore the risks and enter the deep waters. Lifeguards Mohammad Zahir and Rabiul Islam Raju expressed concern about the increased risk during rescues, noting a lack of advanced equipment such as speedboats and jet skis. Unlike other countries, Cox’s Bazar lifeguards use rudimentary equipment, making their job more perilous.
