Cox’s Bazar Cricket Stadium, widely regarded as one of the most scenic stadiums in the country, could undergo a major transformation under a long-term development plan, according to Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) director Asif Akbar. He said that with proper maintenance and strategic planning, the venue has the potential to evolve into a modern sports complex.

Asif Akbar made the remarks on Wednesday while visiting the stadium along with BCB official Habibul Bashar. Although the venue regularly hosts age-level and women’s cricket matches, it has yet to stage men’s international matches.

Speaking about the issue, Asif Akbar pointed out that while the stadium was originally planned as an international-standard venue, the absence of a large gallery has limited its capacity to host major international matches. He said most of the required infrastructure and facilities are already in place, but the lack of larger spectator stands remains a challenge, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Sports and the National Sports Council.

He also revealed that the National Sports Council has plans to construct a modern five-storey stadium with improved facilities, though the project will take time to materialise.

Asif Akbar stated that they are also considering a broader and more integrated development plan for the area. Alongside the stadium, authorities are planning to build a five-star hotel and an amusement park as part of a comprehensive complex.

“The plan for Cox’s Bazar Stadium is a large and modern project. In addition to a high-quality stadium, a proposal calls for developing a five-star hotel and an amusement park as part of an integrated complex. The plan has already been approved, and its implementation will begin at the appropriate time,” he said.

He further added that cricket activities are ongoing at the venue, and the government is working to ensure the facilities required to regularly host international matches in the future. The project design has already been prepared, and positive changes at the Cox’s Bazar Stadium could be visible in the coming years.
