A low-pressure area formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Odisha coast has intensified into a well-marked low. It currently remains in the same region and is likely to move in a west-northwesterly direction.

According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), the system is causing a steep pressure gradient over the north Bay and coastal areas of Bangladesh. As a result, squally weather with gusty or stormy winds may sweep over the north Bay, adjoining coastal areas, and maritime ports.

Under these circumstances, the maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla, and Payra have been advised to hoist local cautionary signal No. 3.

Confirming the development on Wednesday evening (August 27), Abdul Hannan, assistant meteorologist at the Cox’s Bazar office, said that precautionary measures are now in effect.

The BMD has also advised all fishing boats and trawlers in the north Bay to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution until further notice.
