Fatema Tasnim Zuma, a bright daughter of Maheshkhali in Cox’s Bazar, has made history by securing a landslide victory in the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) election.
Contesting for the first time, she was elected as the Liberation War and Democratic Movement Affairs Secretary with a record 10,631 votes.
Her triumph marks a milestone in Dhaka University’s history and a proud chapter for Moheshkhali and Cox’s Bazar.
Zuma’s brilliance was evident from her childhood. In 2012, in Class Four, she ranked first in Maheshkhali in the Shaheed Zia Memorial Merit Scholarship examination.
Two years later, she again topped the entrance test for Maheshkhali Government Girls’ High School.
She never restricted her journey to just academics. In 2016, while in Class Eight, she was named the best student of Maheshkhali Upazila.
She consistently secured talent-pool scholarships in the junior and senior-level board exams, achieving a GPA of 00 in every public exam.
Zuma also stood out in competitive arenas. She was crowned Cox’s Bazar’s best young mathematician four times in the Math Olympiad organized by Prothom Alo.
She completed her SSC from Cox’s Bazar Government Girls’ High School in 2019 and HSC from Cox’s Bazar Government College in 2021—both with a GPA of 5.00.
She continued her pursuit of excellence and enrolled in the Department of Criminology at the prestigious Dhaka University, often called the “Oxford of the East.”
Her resounding victory in the DUCSU election reflects the leadership qualities and determination she has demonstrated since her early student life—qualities that have now been recognized nationally.
For the youth of Moheshkhali, Fatema Tasnim Zuma has become a powerful source of inspiration.
Social media is flooded with congratulatory messages, while local journalists and community leaders believe her success signals the rise of a new generation of leadership from Cox’s Bazar.
