The monsoon rains, which have been pouring continuously across Cox’s Bazar and other parts of the country, are expected to persist for another two days before gradually subsiding, according to the latest forecast from the Bangladesh Meteorological Department. The agency issued this update in its latest weather bulletin on Monday.

Meanwhile, Cox’s Bazar recorded its highest rainfall of the season even before the official onset of the monsoon. As of noon on Monday, the town had received a total of 178 millimeters of rainfall in the past 24 hours.

Assistant meteorologist Abdul Hannan from the Cox’s Bazar weather office said, “We recorded the highest monsoon activity this morning. The city experienced heavy, uninterrupted rainfall for three straight hours, which led to waterlogging in some areas. However, the water quickly drained once the rain eased.”

Hannan also warned of potential landslides due to the heavy rains in the next 24 hours, especially in the hilly regions of Cox’s Bazar. “There is a risk of landslides due to intense rainfall. However, rain is expected to decrease from Tuesday onward,” he added.
