Badiul Alam, a 65-year-old farmer from rural Cox’s Bazar, has found an unlikely but loyal companion in a dog he rescued four years ago. A chance encounter with an injured black puppy on the roadside blossomed into a heartfelt bond rooted in care and companionship.
“I picked up the injured puppy, gave it some basic treatment, and helped it recover. Over the years, it grew up to become my constant companion,” Badiul shared with a warm smile. “Whether I’m working in the fields or running errands, the dog—whom I call Kalo because of his black fur—never leaves my side. His presence brings me joy and peace of mind.”
Badiul believes that those who have experienced the friendship of a dog know the silent yet deep emotional bond they share. “There are countless feelings that can be expressed without a single word. That’s the kind of connection I have with Kalo,” he said.
He added, “A dog is truly man’s most faithful companion. Once it becomes fond of someone, it doesn’t hesitate to risk its life to protect them.”
The quiet loyalty between a farmer and his dog, in a time when human relationships can often feel fragile, demonstrates the enduring power of unconditional love.
