National Legal Aid Day 2026 was observed in Cox’s Bazar under the slogan “End disputes at state expense, Bangladesh first for all.”
Marking the occasion, the district Legal Aid Committee organised a colourful rally on Tuesday morning from the District Judge Court premises. The rally marched through the town’s main streets before returning to the court premises.
Among those present were Deputy Commissioner Md A Mannan and Superintendent of Police ANM Shajadur Rahman, along with other officials.
Following the rally, a discussion meeting was held in the conference room of the District Judge Court. Speaking at the event, District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Abdur Rahim, also the president of the district Legal Aid Committee, said legal aid enables alternative dispute resolution mechanisms and provides state-funded legal assistance to those unable to bear the costs of litigation. Services include appointing lawyers, conducting cases, and offering all types of legal advice and support.
The meeting, moderated by District Legal Aid Officer Abhijit Chowdhury, was also addressed by Judge Abu Hanif, District Bar Association president Abdul Mannan, senior lawyer Advocate Shahjalal Chowdhury, Additional Superintendent of Police Ohidur Rahman, Chief Judicial Magistrate Mohammad Shafiul Azam, and acting Civil Surgeon Mohiuddin Mohammad Alomgir, among others.
At the event, Advocate Mo Shah Alam and Advocate Esmika Sultana were honoured as the best male and female legal aid panel lawyers of the year.
On the occasion, a legal aid fair, voluntary blood donation programme, free blood grouping and diabetes testing were also organised at the District Judge Court premises.
