As the deep depression brings severe weather and heavy rainfall to Cox’s Bazar, various upazilas have experienced damage. To support those affected, the National Citizen Party (NCP), Cox’s Bazar district branch, has initiated a project to distribute dry food and clean drinking water in Kutubdia, Maheshkhali, and Ward No. 1 of the municipality.
According to a press release issued Friday evening by NCP Cox’s Bazar district organizer, Md. Omar Faruk, a rapid response team led by Central Joint Member Secretary S. M. Suza Uddin and local organizer Khalid Bin Saeed, visited disaster-affected areas in Samiti Para and Kutubdia Para of Ward No. 1 after Friday prayers. There, they distributed dry food to around 100 families.
In Kutubdia, a separate NCP team led by local organizer Robin distributed freshly cooked khichuri to those affected. The press release also noted that tomorrow, relief operations—including dry food distribution and emergency medical services—will continue in disaster-stricken areas of Matarbari and Dhalghata unions in Maheshkhali.
S. M. Suza Uddin stated in the release that unplanned development and urbanization have disrupted the region’s environmental balance, weakening the coast’s resilience to natural disasters.
The statement also cited local organizer Khalid Bin Saeed, who emphasized that the participation of local stakeholders in planning and implementing development projects in Cox’s Bazar could have prevented such environmental degradation.
The release concluded with an urgent call from the NCP’s emergency response team, urging the government to construct sustainable embankments and take steps to preserve coastal mangrove forests. It further appealed to the authorities to respond quickly and intensify relief efforts to support those affected by the disaster.
