The praying mantis, belonging to the family Mantidae and the order Mantodea, is a fascinating and semi-metabolic insect known for its unique behaviour and predatory prowess. Its name, “praying mantis,” comes from the distinctive posture of its front legs—folded as if praying during rest. This stealthy insect is a master hunter, relying on patience, camouflage, and lightning-fast reflexes to capture prey. With sharp vision and a flexible neck, it can scan its surroundings with eerie precision, making it a silent predator of the insect world. These photos were captured in the hilly regions of Marine Drive Road.
