As winter approaches, the supply of seasonal vegetables in local markets is increasing. Radish, cauliflower, cabbage, beans, and tomatoes—among other winter vegetables—have already begun to appear in abundance, leading to a gradual decline in prices. The most significant drop, however, has been seen in the price of radish.

According to vendors, just a few weeks ago radish was selling for Tk 70–80 per kilogram. Now, with a greater supply, the price has fallen to Tk 30–40 per kilogram. Farmers say favorable weather conditions have contributed to a good early harvest of radish this year. As a result, supply has outpaced demand, resulting in lower prices.

A visit to Cox’s Bazar’s traditional Boro Bazar revealed stalls brimming with colorful winter vegetables, giving the market a lively, festive look.

One shopper commented, “Not only vegetables—if the prices of all essential items dropped like this, people like us could finally breathe a little easier.”

Market insiders believe that as the winter vegetable season reaches its peak, prices of radish and other vegetables may fall even further, er offering much-needed relief to consumers.
