A meeting of the district law and order committee was held in Cox’s Bazar on Sunday morning.
The meeting took place at the Shilpi AT M Zafar Alam Conference Room of the district administration.
Member of Parliament Advocate Shamim Ara Swapna attended the meeting as the chief guest.
In her remarks, she called for installing CCTV cameras in vulnerable areas of the city and taking necessary steps to address traffic congestion and waterlogging.
She also emphasised the need to establish accommodation facilities for child victims involved in legal cases in Cox’s Bazar.
She said that the people expect peace and stability, and assured her cooperation in initiatives taken in the public interest.
The meeting was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Md Abdur Mannan. Among others present were Additional Superintendent of Police Samim Kabir, Cox’s Bazar Development Authority Secretary Sanjida Begum, Additional Deputy Commissioner Md Shahidul Alam, and Additional Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Debdut Majumder.
In his presidential remarks, the deputy commissioner said the administration was actively working to maintain overall law and order in the district.
He added that police, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), and other law enforcement agencies remained on special alert.
He also said that all law enforcement agencies, along with the district administration, were taking a firm stance against drugs, adding that public awareness was also essential to prevent drug trafficking.
Officials from various government departments and political leaders also attended the meeting.
The discussion covered issues including drug trafficking prevention and control, measures to prevent abduction, strengthening traffic management to reduce public suffering, stopping hill cutting, constructing a dumping station, and enhancing monitoring mechanisms to control prices of essential commodities.
