Eyes closed and arms outstretched, a lone tourist sits facing the roaring sea — soaking in the wind, rain, and the sheer power of nature.

The dark clouds above, the rumble of thunder, and the crashing waves seem to wash away the monotony of city life in a silent, almost spiritual escape.

Since Saturday night, light drizzles in Cox’s Bazar have turned into heavy showers by morning, accompanied by gusty winds.

The sea has grown fierce, with towering waves pounding the shore one after another. Yet, tourists refuse to stay away, embracing the thrill of the monsoon.

“This is like connecting with nature on a deeper level,” said Sharmin Akter, a tourist from Mirpur, Dhaka. “We deliberately came during this rainy season — you never see the sea like this at any other time of the year.”

Local traders agree that the stormy weather draws more visitors. “Tourists come here specifically to see the sea in this season. Its beauty is unmatched — sometimes fearsome, sometimes breathtaking,” said Faruk Hossain, a beachside vendor.

Tourist police, however, continue to caution visitors to stay within designated safe zones, as unexpected waves and sudden squalls can pose risks.

Though it is technically autumn in the Bengali calendar, the lingering monsoon spirit is hard to miss.

Instead of white Kash flowers, Cox’s Bazar offers the thunder of waves and a sky heavy with dark clouds — transforming the beach into a world where danger and wonder coexist in one unforgettable experience.
