As the temperature rises, the intense heat in Cox’s Bazar has rendered daily life nearly unbearable. From early morning, the blazing sun and hot winds have left residents and tourists alike gasping for relief. In this sweltering weather, one refreshing savior has emerged — the seasonal fruit, sugarcane.

It’s sugarcane season in Cox’s Bazar, and the sweet, juicy flavor of freshly cut canes has become a favorite treat. Across the city — especially along the popular Marine Drive Road — sugarcane vendors are drawing large crowds of thirsty customers.

Local shops and street vendors have neatly stacked canes along the roadside, ready for peeling and slicing. Both tourists and locals are stopping to purchase them, with groups of schoolchildren enjoying chilled pieces of sugarcane after classes. Selling for around Tk 10 per piece, the freshly cut canes have become one of the most popular snacks for children during the heatwave.

“In this heat, people don’t feel like eating much, but the demand for sugarcane is huge,” said one vendor. “Even from morning until evening, I can hardly keep up with sales.”

Local residents say sugarcane juice not only quenches thirst but also helps keep the body cool and hydrated in hot weather.

Vendors expect the sugarcane season to continue for a few more weeks — and so will the rush for this sweet relief from the heat.
