After years of anticipation, the government has formally declared Cox’s Bazar Airport as an “international airport.” The Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry issued a gazette notification on Monday, signed by Joint Secretary Ahmed Jamil, confirming the decision.

According to the notification, under Rule 16(1) of the Civil Aviation Rules, 1984, the government has designated Cox’s Bazar Airport as “Cox’s Bazar International Airport.” The order, issued in the public interest, takes immediate effect.

With this declaration, Bangladesh now has four international airports—located in Dhaka, Chattogram, Sylhet, and now Cox’s Bazar.

Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB), Air Vice Marshal Md. Mostafa Mahmud Siddiq said that direct international flights from Cox’s Bazar will commence later this month. An inaugural ceremony will also be held, with Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus expected to attend.

Officials at Cox’s Bazar Airport confirmed that customs and immigration facilities are ready for international operations. “Although a few minor works remain, there will be no obstacle to launching international flights,” they added.
