Trees across Cox’s Bazar are now filled with clusters of green mangoes as the district prepares for the arrival of the peak mango season in Jaishtha.
With only a few days left before the beginning of the Bengali month, mango trees across the district have become heavily laden with unripe fruit.
Local farmers and growers said mango production has been promising this year, and a bumper harvest is expected if favourable weather conditions continue.
A visit to different areas of Cox’s Bazar, particularly along the Marine Drive, Ukhiya, and Ramu, showed that orchards were experiencing abundant yields this season.
In many locations, the weight of the growing mangoes caused tree branches to bend.
Farmer Hasib Ullah said weather conditions had remained relatively favourable throughout the season, from flowering to fruit formation, resulting in minimal damage to the crops.
He expressed optimism that most of the mangoes could be preserved and marketed successfully if the region avoids cyclones or excessive rainfall in the coming weeks.
Local growers also said the mangoes are gradually increasing in size and are expected to begin ripening fully from the beginning of Jaishtha, when the supply of locally grown mangoes in the market will also increase.
Agricultural officials and farmers believe the expected bumper harvest could positively impact the local economy and help growers secure substantial profits this season.
