Cox’s Bazar is proudly known across the country for being home to the world’s longest unbroken sandy beach. Each year, hundreds of thousands of tourists flock to its famous stretches—Kolatoli, Sugandha, Laboni, and Inani.
But for the people who live in this bustling tourist town, leisure takes on a different rhythm—quieter, more intimate, and closer to nature.
Away from the tourist-packed shores, locals often seek out secluded corners of the beach, scenic hilltops, or the tranquil banks of rivers. These are the places where Cox’s Bazar residents unwind and find peace.

Shaibal, Kobita Chattar, and Diabetic Point
Just a little removed from the crowded beach centers, Shaibal Point, Kobita Chattar, and Diabetic Point are well-loved by locals. These spots, relatively free from the tourist rush, are perfect for a calm afternoon. The sound of crashing waves, the salty sea breeze, and the tranquil setting together create a soothing atmosphere.

Hilltop Circuit House
Perched atop the Baharchhara hills, the Hilltop Circuit House is another favorite. Surrounded by lush greenery and offering a panoramic view of the entire town, the hilltop serves as a peaceful retreat for its residents. Spending time here—where the city lies below like a miniature painting—brings a unique sense of calm.

Khuruskhul New Bridge
Built near Kastura Ghat over the Bakkhali River, the newly constructed Khuruskhul Bridge has quickly become a leisure hub for locals. The bridge offers a spectacular sunset view, drawing residents in the evenings and especially on holidays.

Gol Dighi, Lal Dighi, and Napita Pukur
These three historic ponds—Gol Dighi, Lal Dighi, and Napita Pukur—are some of the city’s oldest water bodies. Although the charm of these ponds has faded over time due to neglect, they remain popular gathering places for locals seeking a quiet escape.

Bhangar Mor
At dusk, the beginning of the Marine Drive—known locally as Bhangar Mor—comes alive with energy. Here, the flavors of spicy fuchka, tangy chotpoti, and fried snacks blend with the roar of the sea. For residents, it is not just a hangout spot but a vibrant street food hub.

Life Beyond Tourism
While Cox’s Bazar remains a dream destination for tourists, the everyday lives of its residents tell a different story. Bustling beaches and crowded attractions don’t define their leisure, but by finding peace in hidden corners of nature, where there is no rush, no noise, only the gentle touch of serenity.

In this way, the sea town of Cox’s Bazar offers its people an entirely different kind of destination, one that tourists often overlook.
