A daylong training workshop on modern papaya cultivation and sustainable agricultural practices was held in Cox’s Bazar, organised by BRAC Nursery at the BRAC Learning Centre.

More than 50 farmers from different parts of the district participated in the training.

The Upazila Agriculture Officer of Cox’s Bazar Sadar, Md. Russell Rana, attended the program as a chief guest. Sub-assistant Agriculture Officer Kamal Hossain, officials of BRAC Nursery, and trainees from various areas were also present.

The workshop covered key aspects of papaya cultivation, including characteristics of hybrid and local varieties, selection of improved varieties, soil and fertiliser management, land preparation, weed control, irrigation, and drainage systems. Participants were also given practical demonstrations on proper planting time, crop care, balanced fertiliser use, and methods to prevent flowers and fruit dropping.

Guidance was also provided on disease management, modern processing techniques, and marketing strategies.

Speaking at the event, Md Russell Rana said proper application of modern technology can significantly increase papaya production and ensure commercial profitability. He noted that such training programs helped farmers gain practical knowledge.

Participant Mohammad Ayub said the training provided hands-on understanding of modern papaya cultivation methods, which would help improve productivity and profitability in the future.

Organisers said such initiatives by BRAC Nursery play an important role in enhancing farmers’ skills and promoting sustainable agricultural practices in the region.

Certificates were distributed among the participants at the end of the workshop.
