Zainal Abedin sits by the side of Cox’s Bazar’s picturesque Marine Drive, neatly arranging tamarinds on a mat spread on the ground. For the past five years, this has been his livelihood, attracting tourists from far and wide.
“I bring high-quality tamarinds from villages and arrange them in a way that makes it simple for customers to choose,” Zainal shares with a smile. Tourists often stop by his stall, savoring the tangy fruit and leaving delighted. “Their happiness is my biggest reward,” he adds.
However, the monsoon season poses challenges, as sales drop significantly during rainy days. Despite this, Zainal remains resilient, relying on his sincerity and hard work to earn his living.
Zainal’s story is more than just about selling tamarinds—it’s a testament to the human spirit and a unique part of the vibrant culture that blends seamlessly with the natural beauty of Cox’s Bazar. His presence on Marine Drive offers a glimpse into the perseverance and charm that define life in this coastal town.
