In a special drive against the illegal production, transport, and sale of banned polythene, a mobile court in Cox’s Bazar’s Boro Bazar area seized 481 kilograms of polythene. It fined three business establishments a total of Tk 25,000.

The drive was jointly conducted on Tuesday (August 6) at 11 AM by RAB-15 and the Department of Environment (DoE), under the provisions of the Environment Conservation Act, 1995. The operation was led by RAB-15 CPS Commander Major Md. Nazmul Islam, Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police, Debojit Pal, and Executive Magistrate Abu Hasan from RAB Forces, with coordination from DoE officials.

The raid searched multiple shops and warehouses in the Boro Bazar area, leading to the recovery of a large stash of banned polythene. Environmental laws penalized the responsible business owners and cautioned them against repeating such violations.

In addition to market operations, RAB set up awareness checkpoints at key locations, including Link Road and the Chattogram–Cox’s Bazar Highway. These checkpoints informed drivers, transport workers, and the general public about the harmful effects of polythene and the legal consequences of its use.

Major Md. Nazmul Islam of RAB-15 stated, “Last week, we conducted awareness campaigns among traders and citizens, which led to a noticeable drop in polythene usage. However, we must continue our efforts to ensure this positive change becomes permanent.”

He further assured that RAB’s drives would continue in the interest of public health and environmental protection.

Local business leaders and residents welcomed the initiative and expressed their support for continued enforcement efforts.
