A memorial has been erected in remembrance of Major (Retd.) Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan, who was shot dead by police in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar.

The ‘Sinha Memorial’ monument stands at Shamlapur in Baharchhara Union under Teknaf Upazila. According to local sources, it was constructed under the supervision of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).

On the night of July 31, 2020, Major Sinha, an unarmed retired army officer, was fatally shot by police personnel at a checkpoint in Shamlapur. The incident sent shockwaves across the nation and sparked widespread public outrage.

Born on July 26, 1984, in a respected Muslim family in Faridganj, Chandpur, Major Sinha was the son of Mohammad Ershad Khan, a valiant freedom fighter and former deputy secretary at the Ministry of Finance.

He joined the Bangladesh Army on July 21, 2003, as part of the 51st BMA Long Course and was commissioned on December 22, 2004. Throughout his military career, he was known for his discipline, strategic thinking, creativity, and excellence in leadership. Major Sinha also served in the elite Special Security Force (SSF) and represented Bangladesh professionally in the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in Ivory Coast in 2013.
