A beach cleanup campaign was organised in Cox’s Bazar to make the country’s top tourist destination plastic-free and environmentally friendly.
The Department of Public Health Engineering (DPHE) and BRAC jointly organised the event yesterday during World Cleanup Day.
The campaign stretched from Sugandha Point to Kolatoli Point, where more than 300 participants — including representatives of UN agencies, local and international development organizations, DPHE officials, BRAC staff, local students, youth volunteers, development workers, and tourists — took part.
Among those present were Golam Muqtadir, Project Director of DPHE’s Emergency Assistance Project; Abul Monzur, Assistant Engineer of DPHE Cox’s Bazar; Dipak KC, Project Development Specialist of UNDP’s Sustainable Environment and Public Health division; Sajeda Begum, WASH Officer of UNICEF; Abdul Majed, WASH Associate of UNHCR; Subrata Kumar Chakraborty, Humanitarian Crisis Management Program Adviser of BRAC; and Abdullah Al Raihan, Head of the Program.
Participants expressed hope that such initiatives would inspire tourists and locals alike to keep the beach clean and contribute to preserving Cox’s Bazar’s natural beauty.
