Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed arrived in his home district of Cox’s Bazar on Sunday for a two-day official visit.

He departed from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 3:05 pm on Sunday (March 8) on a US-Bangla Airlines flight (BS-151) and reached Cox’s Bazar Airport later in the afternoon.

Officials from the district administration, police, and leaders of his party welcomed him with flowers at the airport. Among those present were Cox’s Bazar deputy commissioner Md A Mannan and superintendent of police ANM Sazedur Rahman, along with other senior officials. On behalf of the BNP, the district BNP general secretary, Advocate Shamima Ara Swapna, also welcomed the home adviser.

A large number of leaders and activists of the BNP and its affiliated bodies — including Jubo Dal, Chhatra Dal, Sramik Dal, and Swechchhasebak Dal — were present at the airport.

Later, the home minister was given a guard of honour at the Hilltop Circuit House in Cox’s Bazar. Security in the district has been tightened in connection with his visit.

Cox’s Bazar district BNP office secretary Yusuf Badri told Cox’s Bazar Life that BNP national standing committee member and home minister Salahuddin Ahmed was visiting the district on a two-day official tour. He is expected to attend the Cox’s Bazar district law and order committee meeting on Monday, where he will provide guidance on maintaining peace and stability in the district.

After a brief rest at the circuit house and attending iftar, he is scheduled to leave for Pekua at 7:00 pm and is expected to reach there around 8:00 pm, where he will stay overnight at his residence.

On Monday (March 9), he is scheduled to return to Cox’s Bazar from Pekua at 10:00 am. At 11:30 am, he will attend the monthly coordination meeting of the Cox’s Bazar district law and order committee and exchange views with relevant officials.

He is expected to conclude his visit and depart for Dhaka at 2:45 pm on an Air Astra flight, arriving in the capital at around 3:55 pm.
