State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj on Saturday said that the government was introducing policy reforms to address the teacher shortage and other longstanding problems in the education sector.
He said the government had already undertaken various initiatives to improve the quality of education and address teachers’ needs.
The state minister made the remarks while speaking to journalists after visiting Sahityika Model Government Primary School in Cox’s Bazar on Saturday morning.
Earlier, he addressed a daylong workshop as the chief guest at the Cox’s Bazar Leadership Training Center on the implementation of school feeding and project activities under the ongoing Pre-Primary and Primary School Improvement Project in Cox’s Bazar, Bandarban, and Bhashan Char.
At the workshop, he said the government would fulfill various demands and requirements of teachers and introduce midday meal programs for students. He added that the current government was working to address the problems in the education system and would ensure their proper implementation.
The state minister also said that resolving problems in the education sector would help reduce various economic and social challenges in the country. He particularly stressed the importance of building an educated society to prevent the rise of “mob culture”.
Among others present at the program were Director General of the Directorate of Primary Education, Shahina Ferdousi; Directorate Director, NDC Mohammad Kamrul Hasan; and Project Director Mohammad Amzad Hossain.
Later, the state minister visited several primary schools and inspected school feeding activities under the Pre-Primary and Primary School Improvement Project.
Project Director Mohammad Amzad Hossain said the project was being implemented in 1,095 primary schools across Cox’s Bazar and Bandarban.
He also said that with financial support from the World Bank, UNICEF would conduct educational activities in around 4,400 learning centers across 33 camps in Ukhia and Teknaf of Cox’s Bazar, as well as in 20 schools in Bhashan Char.
