National Day of Persons with Disabilities Special

Javed Iqbal Mohammad Masum may look like any other young man, but he faces the dual challenges of being speech- and hearing-impaired. Despite these obstacles, Javed has shown exceptional resilience and intelligence, using writing as his primary means of communication.

Born to Rahila Akter and Mohammad Saleh Ahmed in Purba Boro Veula Sikdar Para of Chakaria Upazila, Cox’s Bazar, Javed has defied all odds. His father, a madrasa teacher, taught him the basics of communication and encouraged his education. He is pursuing a BSc (Honors) degree at Shyamoli Ideal College in Dhaka.

Javed works at a fast-food outlet in Cox’s Bazar town to support his education and living expenses. Through his writings, he shared his thoughts with Cox’s Bazar Life, advocating for a safer and more inclusive Cox’s Bazar. 

He believes we should guarantee equal opportunities for all, especially for marginalized communities, enabling them to progress.

Today, the world marks the 33rd International and 26th National Day of Persons with Disabilities under the theme “Amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future.” Javed stands as a testament to resilience and determination.

On this special day, Cox’s Bazar Life extends its heartfelt admiration and respect to extraordinary individuals like Javed Iqbal Mohammad Masum, who inspire us all with their unwavering spirit.
