Not too long ago, life in rural Bangladesh began with the calls of peddlers, the sound of bamboo flutes, or the rhythm of hand drums. While peddlers still exist today, their appearance and the items they sell have changed with time.

Recently, in Jahajpura village of Teknaf, a peddler named Kabir was spotted carrying on this age-old trade. Initially from Chapainawabganj, Kabir has been selling goods from village to village in Cox’s Bazar for the past seven years.

Kabir shared that he starts his day early in the morning to make a living. His daily earnings range from Tk1,000 to Tk1,500.

He sells a wide range of items, from household essentials to children’s toys, keeping alive the essence of traditional peddling in a modern context.
