Bangladesh pulled off a thrilling four-wicket win over Sri Lanka in their Super Four Asia Cup clash on Saturday night, successfully chasing down a challenging target of 169.
Earlier, Sri Lanka posted 168 for 7, riding on a blistering unbeaten 64 off 37 balls from Dasun Shanaka.
The former captain lit up the death overs with six towering sixes, reviving the innings after a mid-innings slump.
Pathum Nissanka (22), Kusal Mendis (34), and Charith Asalanka (21) also chipped in, but Bangladesh’s bowlers struck at regular intervals.
Mustafizur Rahman starred with the ball, claiming 3 for 20 in four overs, while Mahedi Hasan picked up 2 for 25.
However, the Tigers’ bowling effort was dented by expensive spells from Shoriful Islam and Nasum Ahmed, who conceded 85 runs between them.
In reply, Bangladesh’s top and middle order held their nerve. Despite losing early wickets, key contributions and steady partnerships guided them home.
The finishing touches came from the lower middle order, ensuring Bangladesh crossed the line with four wickets in hand.
