Cox’s Bazar’s bustling Boro Bazar is now overflowing with an abundance of both marine and farmed fish.
From the early hours of dawn, the fish market comes alive with busy traders and eager buyers.
The stalls are vibrant with a rich variety of fresh catches—Rupchanda, Hilsa, Shrimp, Coral, Loitta, Tuna, Katla, Rui, and Pangas, among many others—filling the air with the scent of the sea.
Fishermen report that favorable weather conditions have resulted in a substantial catch from the ocean this season, while farmed fish continue to arrive regularly from nearby fisheries.
As a result, prices have remained relatively stable.
A visit to the market reveals that Rupchanda is selling between Tk 800 and 1,200 per kg, Coral at Tk 600–800, and Loitta (dried) at Tk 400–500.
In contrast, farmed varieties such as Rui are priced at Tk 250–300 per kg, and Katla at Tk 280–350 per kg.
Shoppers say the market now offers a wide range of choices at reasonable prices, allowing them to buy their preferred fish with satisfaction.
With its lively crowd, the gleam of silver-scaled fish, and the cheerful buzz of bargaining, Cox’s Bazar’s Boro Bazar feels like a festive fair.
