Persistent rainfall continued in Cox’s Bazar under the influence of a deep depression over north Odisha and the adjoining West Bengal coast, while rough sea conditions prompted the Bangladesh Meteorological Department to keep local warning signal No. 3 in force at Cox’s Bazar seaport.

Assistant Meteorologist Md Abdul Hannan of the Cox’s Bazar Meteorological Office said that 58 millimetres of rainfall had been recorded in the 24 hours until 9:00am on Wednesday.

He said rain was likely to continue over the coming days under the influence of the deep depression, with gusty to squally winds also expected to affect the coastal areas.

According to the latest special weather bulletin issued by the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, the deep depression, which had been centred over north Odisha and the adjoining West Bengal coast, has moved westwards and now lies over north Odisha and the adjoining southern Jharkhand.

Its influence is likely to cause gusty or squally winds over the north Bay of Bengal, the coastal areas of Bangladesh and the country’s seaports.

The meteorological department has advised the seaports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra to keep local warning signal No. 3 hoisted.

It has also instructed all fishing boats and trawlers operating in the north Bay of Bengal to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution until further notice.
