In observance of World Metrology Day, the District Administration, in collaboration with the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI), organized a discussion meeting in Cox’s Bazar on Tuesday.
The “Measurements for Everyone, Everywhere” event took place at the Shaheed ATM Zafar Alam Conference Room in the Deputy Commissioner’s office.
Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Salah Uddin attended the event as the chief guest. In his remarks, he emphasized the importance of accurate measurement and quality control in safeguarding public health. “From production to consumer-level marketing, ensuring correct weight, quantity, and quality at every stage is essential,” he said.
He stressed the need for widespread awareness campaigns to educate the public about the importance of maintaining standard measurements and preventing food adulteration.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Imran Hossain Sajib presided over the event, which featured speeches by Paritosh Chandra Talukder, Deputy Director of BSTI Cox’s Bazar; Md. Hasan Al Maruf, Assistant Director of the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection; Mahbubur Rahman Chowdhury, President of Cox’s Bazar Press Club; and student representative Shahidul Wahid Shahed.
Officials from various government departments, business leaders, shop owners, and students attended the event. Discussions covered several key issues, including selling substandard or adulterated products, maintaining accuracy in weight, and following BSTI standards in all product categories.
