The price of hilsa has skyrocketed at the Fisherighat of Cox’s Bazar due to lower supplies.
While visiting the ghat, it was seen that the fishermen were returning with hilsa from the sea in fishing trawlers and unloaded them from the trawler to the small boat.
Fishermen and traders said that they could not stay in the sea for long due to hostile weather and had to come back with less hilsa, impacting the price.
They also said that the wholesale price of 100 hilsa above 1 kg is Tk1,30,000-Tk1,50,000 and per 100 hilsa of about 700-800 grams is being sold for Tk80,000-Tk1,00,000.
The hilsa is being sold at the retail level for Tk1,000-Tk1,800 per kg.
