Workers at the Nazirartek dry fish hub in Cox’s Bazar are busy processing and drying fish despite the unpredictable weather during the month of Bhadra.
At times, intense sunshine gives way to drizzle, but the work continues. One worker was seen using a basket-like cage on his head while working in the scorching sun, apparently to get some relief from the heat.
Dry fish worker Hasan said different species of fish, both large and small, arrive at Nazirartek from the sea every day. Workers sort the fish, keeping the freshest ones.
They then clean the fish and lay them out in the sun to begin the drying process.
However, uncertain weather poses difficulties for dry fish production.
While adequate sunshine helps the fish dry quickly, sudden rain forces workers to take extra precautions to protect and preserve the fish.
