A low-pressure area has developed over the east-central Bay of Bengal and adjoining Myanmar coast, raising the possibility of heavy rainfall in Cox’s Bazar, according to Assistant Meteorologist Md Abdul Hannan of the Cox’s Bazar Meteorological Office.

Since early Tuesday morning, the sky over Cox’s Bazar has remained overcast, with intermittent rain and rough sea conditions.

In a special weather bulletin, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) said the low-pressure system is likely to move north-northwestward along the Myanmar–Bangladesh coastline. Due to its influence, deep convection and dense cloud formation are occurring over the northeastern Bay of Bengal. Squally or gusty winds may sweep across Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, and adjoining coastal regions.

Due to the heavy rainfall, there is a risk of landslides in these hilly areas.

As a result, local cautionary signal No. 3 remains in force at both Chattogram and Cox’s Bazar seaports.

Meanwhile, fishing boats and trawlers operating in the northeastern Bay and nearby sea areas have been advised to stay close to the coast and proceed with caution until further notice.
