Although Bangladeshis are often recognized as a nation of ‘fish and rice’, leafy greens are also an essential part of the Bangladeshi diet.

Common varieties include spinach, water spinach, red spinach, Malabar spinach, taro leaves, mustard greens, and jute leaves.

However, Dheki Shak, a lesser-known leafy green, remains unique to the hilly regions.

Dheki Shak stands out for its distinct flavor and impressive nutritional benefits. Rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, this green boosts the immune system and promotes overall health.

In Cox’s Bazar, Dhekhi Shak is available in local markets for around Tk20-Tk30 per bunch. It can be cooked like other leafy greens and is often paired with shrimp, enhancing its unique taste.
