A joint eviction drive was conducted in Sonadia, Maheshkhali, where shrimp enclosures were illegally built by clearing protected mangrove forests. The drive, led by the Upazila Administration and joint forces, targeted unauthorized shrimp farms encroaching on forest department land.
The operation took place on Saturday afternoon under the supervision of Maheshkhali Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and Executive Magistrate Md. Hedayet Ullah. During the drive, embankments of the illegal shrimp enclosures were demolished, and three unauthorized farms, including their sluice gates, were dismantled.
Authorities also seized tools and materials used in the encroachment, including machetes, solar panels, a motorcycle, and a gumboat.
UNO Hedayet Ullah confirmed that legal action is being taken against those illegally occupying forest land.
