A discussion meeting marking the Great Victory Day was held at the Cox’s Bazar Press Club, with speakers calling on journalists to play an active role in documenting the true history of the Liberation War and preventing its distortion.

The programme took place on Monday (December 15) afternoon at the Press Club auditorium. 

Speakers at the meeting emphasized media professionals’ responsibility to safeguard historical truth and counter attempts to misrepresent the history of the 1971 Liberation War. The event concluded with prayers seeking eternal peace for the souls of the martyrs of 1971.

Addressing the discussion, speakers said that Bangladesh’s independence was achieved through the supreme sacrifice of the martyrs of the Liberation War, and their ideals, patriotism, and moral courage must continue to guide the nation forward. 

They stressed that journalists, in particular, have a vital duty to uphold truth and justice and to guide the nation with responsible reporting.

The speakers also highlighted the importance of presenting the correct history of the Liberation War to the younger generation. 

They noted that educational institutions, the media, and social organizations must work more actively to prevent historical distortion and properly highlight the martyrs’ contributions.

The meeting was chaired by Kamal Hossain Azad, acting president of the Cox’s Bazar Press Club, and moderated by Ikram Chowdhury Tipu, joint general secretary of the Press Club.
