A month-long under-15 football training programme has begun in Cox’s Bazar under the patronage of the Department of Sports, Ministry of Youth and Sports, as part of the “Tarunnya Utsab 2025” celebration.

The training was inaugurated on Saturday at Birshreshtha Ruhul Amin Stadium, organised by the district administration and District Sports Office, with support from the District Sports Association.

Md Selim Fakir, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, attended the opening ceremony as the chief guest.

Speaking at the event, he emphasised the importance of expanding sports such as football and cricket across the district — from towns to remote areas — to keep youths away from crime. He also informed that necessary initiatives are underway to allocate budget for the reconstruction of the recently damaged district stadium.

The programme was presided over by Additional Deputy Commissioner Imran Hossain Sojib.
Special guests included Afzalur Rahman, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration and President of the Bangladesh Baseball-Softball Association; Kazi Nazrul Islam, Executive Director (Joint Secretary) of the National Sports Council; and Prof. Dr. Anupam Hossain, Senior Vice President of the Bangladesh Baseball and Softball Association.

The event was conducted under the supervision of District Sports Officer Md Alaudddin. Ad-hoc committee members of the District Sports Association — Sarwar Romman, Masud Alam, and Omar Sharif Shibli — along with sports journalists including M R Mahbub, former sports officials, coaches, trainers, and players were present.

A total of 40 players from various educational institutions and clubs across the district are participating in the training.

Following the programme, participants will be shortlisted to form the Chattogram divisional team for the U-15 National Development Cup Football Tournament, officials said.
