A mother turtle narrowly escaped a dog attack after laying eggs on the beach, while 114 of its eggs were safely recovered and preserved.

The incident took place around 9:30 pm on Wednesday (April 8) at the sandy dunes of Inani Beach. Prompt action by hotel staff member Md Hossain and beach worker Md Belal helped save both the turtle and its eggs.

According to Md Belal, a beach worker under the Cox’s Bazar district administration, the large turtle came ashore from the sea around 9:00 pm and spent about 20 minutes laying eggs before covering them with sand.

A pack of dogs attacked the turtle as it returned to the sea around 9:30 pm. Md Hossain immediately tried to drive the dogs away and informed Belal, who rushed to the scene and ensured the turtle’s safe return to the sea.

Later, the buried eggs were carefully recovered from the sand. A total of 114 eggs were recovered and preserved. The matter was reported to the executive magistrate of the district administration’s tourism cell, and the forest department was informed.

The eggs have since been transferred to a turtle hatchery for safe conservation.
