Intermittent rain continued across parts of the country on Wednesday, followed by light to moderate showers on Thursday morning. In Cox’s Bazar, heavy rainfall has led to waterlogging in several areas, causing inconvenience to both commuters and local residents.
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has forecast continued rainfall across the country for the next three to four days. It has also maintained Local Cautionary Signal No. 3 at all four maritime ports, including Cox’s Bazar, where the possibility of heavy rainfall remains.
Despite the warning, large crowds of tourists continue to gather at the beach, with many entering the sea while ignoring safety advisories. To ensure public safety, local authorities, lifeguards, and the Tourist Police have been deployed along the coast.
Tourist Police Additional DIG for the Cox’s Bazar Region, Apel Mahmud, urged visitors to pay attention to tide levels and wind speed, and to enter the water only in flag-marked safe zones. He also advised non-swimmers to avoid deep waters and warned against entering the sea when waves are strong.
In Teknaf, over 200 families stranded by heavy rain were provided with dry food supplies on Wednesday afternoon, an initiative led by the Hnila Union Parishad.
Meanwhile, in Ramu, a tragic incident occurred due to continuous rain — a worker named Sirajul Haque (aka Guraiya) died in a landslide while cutting earth in a hilly area. In light of this, officials have urged residents to remain cautious during periods of heavy rain.
