Part of the world’s longest sea beach, Inani has recently become a dumping ground for waste. Located about 24 kilometers from Cox’s Bazar, this beach is a popular destination, attracting thousands of tourists daily.

However, following several days of heavy rainfall and mountain runoff, the beach’s environment has become polluted with debris.

On Thursday morning, it was observed that the long stretch of Inani Beach was littered with wood, tree branches, and various types of waste. Despite the piles of rubbish, tourists were seen strolling along the beach.

Selina Parveen, a tourist from Lalbagh, Dhaka, expressed her disappointment, saying, “Since Cox’s Bazar is the largest tourist center in the country, I never imagined seeing such mismanagement here. While the waste may be due to natural causes, it should be cleaned up promptly.”

Mohammad Belal, a beach worker assigned to Inani Beach, explained, “There are two large and small canals on either side of Inani.

The debris from the mountain runoff flows through these canals and accumulates on the beach.

Although two cleaning staff members from a private company are assigned to the task, they are struggling to manage the vast amount of waste alone.”

Locals also believe that it is nearly impossible to clean such a large area with such a small workforce.

Nafish Intashar Nafi, the Executive Magistrate responsible for the Cox’s Bazar District Tourism Cell, told Cox’s Bazar Life, “We are taking prompt action to clean up the beach.

The company responsible for waste removal has been instructed to deploy additional cleaning staff. We will be increasing manpower at Inani soon.”

If immediate action is not taken to ensure the comfort of tourists during the peak tourist season, locals fear that the reputation of the beach will be tarnished.
