A rare species of green mussel has been newly spotted along the shores adjacent to the Marine Drive road in Cox’s Bazar. Resident Lutfa Begum remarked, “It’s been a long time since we last saw these green mussels.” Known locally as Kerang Hijau (scientific name: Perna viridis), this Asian marine delicacy grows naturally and is often found clinging to bamboo structures placed by coastal fishermen to aid their cultivation. These mussels contribute to the aquatic ecosystem and serve as a vital food source and livelihood. Polash Shikdar captured these photos for Cox’s Bazar Life near the Marine Drive road.
