The appointment of BNP standing committee member Salahuddin Ahmed as the country’s home minister has sparked celebrations in Pekua and Chakaria of Cox’s Bazar, as leaders and residents hail the historic moment for the district.

For the first time in history, a son of Cox’s Bazar has been entrusted with the responsibility of the home ministry, triggering widespread enthusiasm among party activists and local people alike.

Soon after news of his appointment spread, BNP leaders and activists held processions in various parts of Pekua and Chakaria. Sweets were distributed, and greetings exchanged in several areas, with many describing the development as a matter of pride for the district.

The general secretary of Pekua Upazila BNP, Iqbal Hossain, said that they were delighted that an experienced politician from Cox’s Bazar had been given charge of the home ministry. He expressed hope that the country’s law-and-order situation would improve under his leadership.

Chakaria Upazila, BNP general secretary Mobarak Ali, said the appointment was not only a source of pride for the BNP but also for the entire people of Cox’s Bazar. He hoped that development in the coastal region would gain further momentum under his prudent leadership.

Pekua Upazila Juba Dal convener Kamran Jader Mukut termed the development a historic moment and wished him success in his new role.

Pekua Upazila Swechchhasebak Dal president Ahsanullah said the district was proud of its distinguished son and expressed optimism about new possibilities under his stewardship.

Former convener of Uttar Harbang BNP Mohammad Nurullah Nuru said the appointment reflected the long-standing aspirations of the people of Cox’s Bazar and voiced confidence in further improvements in the country’s law and order situation.

Overall, a festive mood has prevailed across Pekua, Chakaria, and other parts of the district following the appointment, with locals expecting renewed momentum in development activities alongside his ministerial responsibilities.
