Moheshkhali-based student Nirban bin Shahjahan has secured a place among the top 1 percent of global candidates on the Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT), marking an outstanding academic achievement.
In the recently published results, he scored 1,520 out of 1,600. He achieved a perfect 800 in Mathematics and 720 in Evidence-Based Reading and Writing, reflecting exceptional academic excellence.
This accomplishment has opened doors for him to pursue higher education at leading global institutions, including the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge.
Nirban was born into a family in Moheshkhali Municipality known for its academic orientation.
He is the eldest son of a prominent political figure, Md. Shahjahan and Shakuntala Khan. He is also the grandson of noted intellectual Dr. Salimullah Khan.
He is currently a student at Notre Dame College, Dhaka, in the 2026 batch, and is preparing for his higher secondary examinations.
Alongside his academic pursuits, Nirban has demonstrated excellence in various national and international Olympiads.
He has been selected to represent Bangladesh in the International Astronomy Olympiad.
He has also been a national winner in the Bangladesh Astronomy Olympiad and became the national champion in the senior category of the Bangladesh Space Olympiad.
Moreover, he earned a gold award in an international astronomy and astrophysics competition.
In mathematics competitions, he secured a silver award in the International Youth Math Challenge, placing him among the top 8 percent globally.
He has also achieved multiple national and divisional victories in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Earth Olympiads.
His other notable achievements include the Duke of Edinburgh’s Gold Award and a bronze medal in the Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition.
He also received an outreach award in the Beamline for Schools competition and was a divisional winner in the National Environmental Olympiad.
Academically, Nirban has consistently excelled, earning Golden A+ grades and scholarships in PSC, JSC, and SSC examinations.
His future goal is to contribute to the country through research in space science or advanced physics.
The SAT, administered by the College Board, plays a significant role in undergraduate admissions at universities worldwide.
