In the tranquil countryside of Cox’s Bazar, a soft, melodious coo often drifts through the dawn sky or quiet midday air — the soothing call of the Spotted Dove (Spilopelia chinensis).
With its striking black-and-white collar, brownish-grey wings, and reddish eyes, this graceful bird captures the gaze of anyone who spots it.
To nature lovers, the dove is more than just a bird — it symbolises the peaceful charm of rural Bangladesh.
Whether perched on a rice field edge, fluttering along a dirt path, or resting in a grove, these doves are familiar in village landscapes.
Usually seen alone or in pairs, their soft, rhythmic coo adds a gentle rhythm to the stillness of the countryside.
The Spotted Dove is deeply woven into the fabric of rural life. Farmers often hear its call while working in the fields, and children watch it flutter by as they play outdoors. Its presence lends a sense of harmony and liveliness to the natural surroundings.
With its melodious voice and simple beauty, the Spotted Dove continues to make the rural heartlands of Cox’s Bazar feel even more serene and full of life.
