The Shobu Ippon Coastal Karate Championship, organized by the Japan Karate Association (JKA), commenced in Cox’s Bazar on Friday.

The two-day event was inaugurated at the Bir Shreshtha Ruhul Amin Indoor Stadium by the Chief Guest, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Salahuddin.

In his opening remarks, the Deputy Commissioner emphasized the importance of training and competitions in honing athletes’ skills and talents. He also assured the district administration of full support for developing all regional sports.

Tapan Kumar Dutta, District President of the Japan Karate Association, presided over the ceremony. Other notable speakers included Additional Deputy Commissioner Nizam Uddin Ahmed, Chairman of the Bangladesh Karate Referee Association Tulu Ush Sams, JKA Bangladesh General Secretary Uday Shankar Pal Mithu, Karate Federation District President Sirajul Haque, President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Abu Morshed Chowdhury, and Bangladesh Karate Federation member Harun-or-Rashid.

Karate trainers, players, and guardians attended the event, making it a vibrant gathering of sports enthusiasts. After the inauguration, an impressive karate demonstration and competition took place.

The championship features 16 teams representing Cox’s Bazar, Dhaka, Chattogram, Gazipur, Khulna, and Faridpur. 241 karate athletes compete across various categories, showcasing their skills and dedication to the sport.
