A new chapter in students’ physical and mental development has begun at Cox’s Bazar Government Women’s College with the inauguration of a Wushu-karate club on Tuesday morning.

The club was formally launched on the college campus with a colorful event to promote self-defense skills and physical fitness among students.

Acting principal Rezaul Karim Mohammad Tarek attended as the chief guest.

Among the special guests were Iktereuddin Bayzid, a UNHCR liaison officer, and national Wushu coach Anis Sohel, who encouraged students to participate in martial arts training.

Teachers, including Teachers’ Council Secretary Shamim Ahmed, and members of the Cox’s Bazar District Wushu Federation were also present.

Speakers highlighted the growing importance of martial arts in today’s world, noting that training in Wushu and karate not only teaches self-defense but also builds confidence and discipline.

They emphasised that these skills are especially important for female students.

They also said extracurricular activities like these contribute positively to the development of a healthy body and mind alongside academic studies.

The highlight of the program was a demonstration session at the college grounds, where trained performers showcased a range of dynamic and artistic Wushu techniques to a musical rhythm, drawing enthusiastic responses from the audience.

Guardians and organisers believe that the club’s launch will open new opportunities for students to engage in sports and self-defense training.
